Gay marriages in North Carolina is not permitted, nor are said unions recognized. However, North Carolina is the only southeastern state to remain silent on gay marriage and has not passed a constitutional amendment banning it.
Domestic Partner benefits are available in select cities, Chapel Hill, Asheville, and Carborro, among them.
